At YouthBuild programs in the United States and across the globe, low-income young people learn construction skills to help build affordable housing and other community assets.
WHAT IS HOMEWORK HANGOUT
CLUB’S YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM?
For many of Decatur’s youth, we’re a training and development center. For others we’re a safe and supportive place to learn, mature, fail before succeeding, then launch into a new life.
In addition to meeting the objectives of YouthBuild USA, Homework Hangout Club offers:
Life skills including social/emotional development
Introduction to financial literacy
Progressional development including workplace etiquette, resume writing, and interview skills training
Discipline, team building, customer service, and time management
Mental toughness workshops
Job placement
Hospitality and Food Service Management certificate program
And speaking of food, our participants enjoy hot, delicious meals prepared daily by professionally trained staff.
Our participants receive the mentoring and leadership skills to distinguish themselves among their peers. They are rewarded with professional internships, living-wage jobs with benefits, and continuing education and training opportunities. They learn from servant leaders to make a positive mark on their community.
We work on the social, emotional skills and critical thinking to
help develop better, stronger community members.

YouthBuild targets at-risk youth who face the greatest challenges to completing high school and earning a living wage. If you’re the one who won’t stop until you reach your goals, and you have big goals, you’re ready.

Homework Hangout Club’s YouthBuild program is aligned with the US Department of Labor’s goals of preparing workers for good jobs and assuring the attainment of the skills and knowledge that ensure workers succeed in a knowledge-based economy. YouthBuild specifically targets at-risk youth that are current or former high school dropouts with the greatest challenges to finding good jobs.
HHC’s Youthbuild program is supported by the US Department of Labor. A total of $1,472,000, or 80% of the project is financed with federal funds, and $368,000, or 20% is funded by other sources.
